PL Academy II: Launch                                     august 1, 4-5, 2016

Objectives:

  • School teams will finalize their design plans focused on classroom models and instructional strategies.

  • Create plans for school teams to support PL.

  • Create plans for school teams to communicate PL to stakeholders.

August 1: Discovery ES, Rolling Ridge ES, Rosa Lee Carter ES, Sully ES, Waterford ES

August 4: Belmont Ridge MS, Farmwell Station MS, J. Michael Lunsford MS, Trailside MS, River Bend MS

August 5: Belmont Station ES, Catoctin ES, Forest Grove ES, John W Tolbert ES, Sterling ES

Location for all 3 days: AOL Building

Instructional Models

  • Choose your Instructional Models from the Menu for your School Team.

    • Instructions: Schools pick from a menu and any teacher may choose models from menu to start with for first 6-8 weeks of implementation.
    • Next Steps: School PL Team to lead your teachers in a model selection workshop. Teachers provide the rationale for their model selection. Consider how you will keep track of who is implementing what model and for how long. Consider using a Google Form to gather feedback from teachers.

  • ​Revisit your school’s Instructional Model from the Design Workshop and update by August 22. See here: School PL Teams.

    • Needs to include: PL Pitch, Core 4 Actions (3 actions for each) and your chosen Instructional Models from the Menu.

    • Check out your School Team Feedback Notes shared at Launch.

 

Professional Development Plans and Support

  • Determine what PD your school and the district already have planned for the year.

  • Consider the following:

    • What PD/support will be needed for teachers new to Personalized Learning?

    • What ongoing support do you expect teachers will need?​

    • How can you make your PD more personalized?

  • Update your School PD Plan and share District PD Support Requests. â€‹

Communication Plans

  • Communication Expectations to be completed and shared by August 22, 2016:

  1. Create/update your first parent newsletter to highlight PL at your school.

  2. Create a plan for Back to School Night and messaging for teachers to share with parents.

  • Consider what ongoing communication â€‹you will continue throughout the year and who will own the messaging.  Also begin planning for how you will update your school website.
